Shopping Trip - Rite Aid 10/17/09

I love CVS, but these free items at Rite Aid are something else! :-)

I didn't make to Rite Aid on Tues. like I normally do, because of the rain. I did finally get there on Sat., even though I had hubby in tow. So I did a much more abbreviated shopping trip than I intended. But at least I got the items I think we'll actually use, for FREE. So here is what I got:

Children's Throat Cooler - $2.99
Breathe Again Nasal Spray - $7.99
Simply Saline - children - $3.99
BodiHeat Heating Pad - $2.99
Cold War Tablets - $3.99
Comtrex Cold & Cough - $3.99
Sucrets sore throat - $2.99
Bee M.D. throat drops - $2.49
Carmex Moisture Plus - $2.29
Carmex origional 3-pak - $1.99
Luden's throat drops - $2.29

Every item was on Rite Aid's FREE Rebate's offer (except the last, since they were hubby's *favorite* cough drop). I used a store coupon for $5-off-$25 order, then a $1.50 coupon off the Carmex, and a $1 coupon off the Child's Throat Coolers. Though I missed using my Comtrex Coupon, which I had just grabbed from a blinkie machine. Oh, and I forget to pull a coupon I had on the Saline Mist. Oh well.

The total I paid out of pocket was $33.62, and I should be receiving back a rebate for $35.70. There is nothing worse than having a sick child (or being sick yourself), but then having to make a special trip to the store, and pay $8 out of pocket for a cold medicine just adds insult to injury. I will be buying Dimotapp and Robitussum this week at CVS, and will post about that later.

Wanchai Ferry

I had read another blog telling how wonderful this frozen meal was, so I thought I would try it. At Savemart, it was $8.49, and I had a $1.50 coupon from coupon.com. I would not normally splurge on something like this when I can make a huge pot of spaghetti for about $8, but with the coupon, I decided to treat myself. I also bought 2 Bertolli frozen meals, and I'm sure I'll try one of them this week.

So I tried the Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken, and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. The reason for that score, is that it does not quite match Panda Express, and I think they should have put more broccoli and carrots in, than they did corn. Also, the sauce was a little strong in my opion, but matched about perefectly with the rice.

The chicken is in it's own package, as well as the sauce mix and the rice. The rice you actually heat in the microwave. The dish really does take just 15 minutes to cook, and I was pretty happy with the texture. It serves 2 people, which is about right. My 2 y/o daughter didn't eat much, but I ate about 3/4 of the package. But I was pretty hungry. You might want to pair it with a chinese salad.

So if I see it cheaper in the future, I will probably use my other coupon to buy it again. It's nice to have some of these easy meals in the freezer, as pizza can get pretty tiring.

Sun. 8/23/09

I went to Save Mart yesterday, with the best of intentions. Especially since I had a $5 register reward, and they are having such good prices on chicken leg quarters and pork ribs. I believe they were .77 cents a lb. and .97 a lb. respectively. I also bought lots of their veggies, a continer of brie cheese that I have a rebate for, 2 containers of store brand drink mix (like crystal lite), some canned items, and bread on sale. Also I splurged on a few frozen meals that I had coupons for. More on that in a minute.

I spent a total of $58.75 after coupons. The kicker? I received a $3 coupon off any MiraLAX product. Huh??? Who figures these things out? What makes "them" think I'm constipated? Too funny.

CVS Purchase - 8/22/09

Okay, even though I missed the great "freebies" early in the week, I still wanted to get to CVS before the end of the week. And I have a huge confession to make...

Are you ready?

I sometimes make mistakes. I know, I know... But it is all part of the learning process, and I'll try not to let it happen again. LOL So, here goes:

First of all, they were having a deal where you buy 2 Johnson & Johnson First Aid items, you would get $2 in ECB's. The swell thing about this deal, is that it applied to even the little travel kits. Sadly, I only had 4 coupons. So my 1st transaction was to buy 2, use 2 $1 coupons, and get $2 in ECBS.

2nd Transaction:

Cottenelle toilet paper - 12-pack of double rolls - $6.99
Generic Vinegar - 1 gallon bottle - $3.39
(3) boxes of Kleenex - 200 count - $2.79 ea.
(2) J&J First Aid Kits - $ .99 ea.
Pampers wet wipes - 64 count box - $3.69
Bounce Dryer Bar w/ holder - $5.49
(5) 4-packs of Hanson juice boxes - $1.00 ea.
Lindsey green olives - $1.69
(2) Emerald Peanuts - 4.5 oz. - $1.00 ea.
(2) Swedish Fish - $. 88 ea.
Dove dark chocolate bar - $ .67
L'Oreal Revitalift Wrinkle Repair - $14.99
L'Oreal Facial Cleanser - $5.99
Total - $62.01

And actually, the total before scanning my card was about $75, I believe.

Coupons:
$1.00/1 on Cottenelle
$2.50/1 on Dryer Bar (from Vocal Point)
$1.50/2 on Emerald
$1.00 on Hanson (product peelie that was B4G1F)
$1.00/3 on Kleenex
(2) $1.00/1 on Johnson & Johnson
(2) $1.00/1 on L'Oreal
$3.69 on Pampers (Free coupon)
$ .67 on Dove (Free coupon from Mars.com)
Total - $15.36

Then I had a $5 onlince coupon for filling out a survey at CVS. And also a special $4 off a $20 purchase, received in my email. I had about $12 in ECB, (2) $3 of a $15 purchase (one of which was expired), and a $2 coupon off a vitamin purchase. My cashier actually took all my CVS coupons and scanned them all through. This does NOT normally happen. Usually, when the register beeps, your cashier will politely hand you the coupon back. But now I know that I should maybe try, in the future. So, my out of pocket - was $19.39. Plus, I got $10 in ECB's for the L'Oreal purchase, and $2 more ECB's for the J&J purchase.

Not too bad, really. But where did I make a mistake, you ask? I intended to buy the Kleenex that was on sale for $ .99 each, but I just looked at the picture, and didn't read the fine print. I'm ok with having larger boxes, but it was not a frugal buy. Also, the night before I had gone online to L'Oreal and printed off a $5 coupon, after signing up to their sight. Buuut, instead of putting it in the envelope with the other coupons, I slipped it into the outside pocket of my purse, and totally spaced on it at the store.

So the moral of the story, is that pays to be organised! I almost missed using the free coupon on the Pampers Wipes. I had come across it by accident while looking through my coupons, and would have never realised it was for a FREE item, not just a $1 off or something.
